Synopsis
When Kathy and Doug moved into this cottage, they were coming out of a more ornate, heavy European trend in design. So it was the right time to lighten up to a softer look. Though the couple didn't want to disrupt the scale or exterior of their vintage house, they agreed that the original floor plan needed some adjustments to add sunlight and livability. With thoughtful planning and design savvy, they addressed the things that bothered them most, like having the kitchen, dining room and living room closed off from one another. Throughout the home, wall colors and wood finishes in soft dove grays and quiet blues add a blush of contrast but without spoiling the light and airy attitude. 'I like the monochromatic palette,” Kathy explains. 'To us it's just relaxing at the end of the day.' Katy is very partial to comfort, which happens to be the very foundation of the French country style. "The French embrace the 'hearth and home' lifestyle; it reflects their love of life" She notes.
